The 10 mile race is almost here!  Oct 1 I race.  I am psyched.  I’m nervous and excited.  I’m down to around 196.  Not quite at my goal of 185, but good enough.  The main goal is under 2 hours.  Shannon wants to try to do it in an hour and 40 minutes.  It’s possible if I have a particularly good day.  Wish me luck!

This is one of those gems of a documentary.  I love documentaries about people.  It’s so interesting to look into their personal lives, their personality.  What makes this particularly unique is the amount of tape and video footage.  Daniel Johnston is a talented songwriter plagued by bipolar disorder.

The amount of media available to the filmmakers is staggering.  From a young age Daniel recorded his thoughts, his music, his movies.  You can see his creativity from early on through his troubled years.  The change is dramatic and amazing to be able to watch.  We also get a happy ending as he gets the help he needs and works towards a normal life.

I thought his music was so so, probably because he’s a horrible singer.  But the lyrics are great, inspired by the demons he has to fight constantly in his head.  The emotional struggle he lives with everyday inspire his creativty, his music, his art.

Absolutely this is a great movie.

Hard Candy is a suspenseful thriller that’s in your face.  It makes no apologies and tackles the subject head on.  The plot follows a 14 year old girl who meets and older man online.  They arrange a meeting, she ends up at his house, and that’s just where things start.

I thought the acting by both Ellen Page as the girl and Patrick Wilson as the creepy dude was excellent.  I wondered how the tension would continue throughout the movie.  I was afraid there would be too much down time.  I was pleasantly wrong.  The writer and director did and excellent job keeping the tension very high without seeming artificial or forced.

It all seemed disturbingly believeable that a smart 14 year old could behave in the way protrayed in the movie.  I would definitely recommend this.  It’s not for all people as the topic is paedophelia, but there isn’t anything shown as  the tension and suspense are done so well they don’t have the need to resort to such cheap tricks.

Pick it up, take a look, enjoy the suspense.

Jackass Number TwoI have never seen so mucch shit and vomit in my life. Thumbs up! Jackass Number Two lives up to its title and its predecessor. The only thing that will probably stop these guys is death, and that ain’t too far off.

There isn’t a lot to talk about. I mean, it’s Jackass. They do what Jackass does. The inclusion of some little skits is kind of fun. The audience was laughing the whole time, cover their eyes half the time, and whincing in pain quite often.

If you like Jackass, go see it for sure. There really isn’t any other audience for this flick.

Stick ItYeah, fuck off. It’s chicks in leotards doing the splits. There’s nothing more manly than that. Stick It is just like the writer’s previous work, Bring It On…only it’s about gymnastics instead of cheerleading. Is there really any difference?

I think the writer/director certainly seems to have a firm grasp on her audience. I can’t fault her for that. Movies don’t have to be made to be masterpieces. They can and should be made to make money and entertain. This movie does both.

It’s not a great film, but it’s fun. It’s not as good as Bring It On, but, hey, chicks in leotards. Really, that’s the best thing it has going for it. Don’t underestimate the power of leotards. But it can’t be the entire movie. I mean, Showgirls was nothing but tits and ass and it sucked.

The movie was just ok. Decent for teen girls and teen guys (though most of the actresses are actually adults). It’s total cheese and totally formulaic. Even a teen comedy can be better than that.

My next project is a rip off was completely inspired by what I believe is the original Zombie Preparedness Kit. Unlike some of my other projects, this one I’m actually going to finish. I can say that with confidence as I’m 75% done. I took the original idea and added some things I thought were missing from a good Zombie kit. It’s got the sawed-off shotgun, of course. But I’ve added a hatchet and a Zippo lighter.

The hatchet is a great hand to hand weapon against zombies. It’s short, sharp, and perfect for chopping off heads. The Zippo is a good all-around item. Mostly it will be good for torching buildings containing lots of zombies. You know, run out of the building, shut the door trapping them, torch it.

I’ve also made the case light up. That’s right, internal lighting. However, sicne you can’t count on power working during a zombie attack, this sucker is solar powered. I’m off the grid, baby.

Pics are coming soon.

CreepA creature roams the London Underground killing unsuspecting victims. Starring that chick from Run, Lola, Run this creature feature is just ok. It wasn’t that scary but it was bloody, so that’s cool. Creature flicks that reveal the creature early just don’t do it for me. I suppose it’s a personal thing. I didn’t hate it. It was watchable. It looked quite nice on film. I just think the story was a bit weak. If you watch a ton of movies, as I do, rent it. If not, skip it, you won’t miss much.
